Because no human can turn the film reel with the consistency required of the 16mm sound apparatus, the didactic documentary voices that are reanimated by hand and in real time here become stretched and distorted as though revealing ideologies that became corrupted and occult in the decades that secured their obsolescence. Voice of god narration must give way to the polyphony of the present while the ‘I’ of the resulting self-portrait, audio-visually borne in that same moment, must also yield to a similar kind of multiplicity.
